Little Miss Leia aka The Brut!!!
What can I say about our Leia. For one, she is the world to me!! Leia was our first puppy, and believe me, it was just like having your first child. Many trips to the emergency room with hundreds and hundreds of dollars spent on procedures that weren't exactly needed. Hundreds and hundreds of dollars spent on toys, and treats, and puppy classes, and clothes, and the list just goes on and on and on. But believe me, all the sleepless nights getting up to take her "potty", and all the money spent was worth it. Leia is our baby through and through, and we can not imagine our lives without her now.But 1 year and 3 months later what we have now on our hands is "The Brut". Sure, she make
look cute and innocent, but do not be fooled, Little Miss Leia can handle herself! Leia has definitely grown out of the cute puppy stage and into her terrible toddler stage. Leia successfully destroys toys with 2 minutes of getting her mouth on them. And as if destroying her toys was not enough, she has now taken to eating our dining room table, the drywall, the stairs, complete with carpet padding underneath, anything that is made of wood, oh yes, and her brother Oliver!Since Oliver has come into our family, Leia has definitely calmed down a bit, but she is still the typical Boston from head to toes. In her free time
Leia enjoys playing tug of war with Oliver, biting Oliver's leg so that he will chase her, teasing Oliver with whatever she has, sitting on Oliver's head when he is sleeping, oh yes and at night she's curled up next to Oliver under the covers. Leia also enjoys playtime with her best
friend Buster. Even though Buster weighs 60lbs more than Little Miss Leia, you would never know it by the way Leia kicks Buster's butt. Leia doesn't even notice that she's a little Boston and he's a great big Boxer! Although she is quite a handful, we wouldn't trade Leia for a million dollars any day of the week!
Our Camera Shy Little Oliver
We adopted Oliver, aka Ollie, from the Boston Buddies Rescue
Group, in January of 2006. Although Oliver's owners had had Ollie since a puppy, they could no longer keep him or his father due to their granddaghter's allergies. Ollie's dad went to a family member, but sadly they had to release Ollie to Boston Buddies. Having waited since August for the perfect Boston to adopt, Ed and I were very excited when we got the call about Oliver!
Things were not so great in the beginning. Our little brut, Leia, was very excited to meet Oliver, but seemed to be a little too much for him. Ollie was so submissive in the beginning that he
would either roll over on his back and give up or jump into Ed's lap when Leia came after him. Ollie also suffered severe separation anxiety in the beginning and would howl and scratch at the garage door in an effort to find us when we had left for work. There was a few weeks there when we thought for sure Oliver just wouldn't be able to live our lifestyle.
But then came the day that Oliver came down to join in while we were playing with Leia. Although he was very timid, it was immediately apparent that Oliver wanted to play, and that he was becoming more and more comfortable in the house. The scratching at the garage door stopped, and then he and Leia were laying in bed side by side.
Since January Ollie has come a long way. Ollie not only joins in at play time, but at many times is actually the instigator! He absolutely adores Leia, and is becoming more and more like his big
sister every day. He's so confident and comfortable here he actually growls at us when we try to move him to get into bed at night!! We know he means nothing by it, he's just saying, "Hey! I'm sleeping here, leave me alone!" On rare occassions, when he's comfrotable and playing around with Leia, we actually get a peek at him with 1 Boston ear sticking straight up, but only 1, never both!
We are so greatful to have been blessed with adopting our little Oliver! And each and every day he is trying and learning new things with us. He has learned to sit, stay, shake, walk backwards up the stairs, and even sticks close by when off leash. He has been such a
good boy off leash that we were able to take him to Doggy Beach and he was able to run and play with the other dogs!
Oliver is a great dog, and wonderful companion to not only Ed and I, but also to Little Miss Leia!
